CDTV IR controller support

In addition to PC and Amiga keyboard related features detailed above the EZKey-XS has a full infrared decoder for the CDTV remote control unit already built in. The optional internal or external IR receiving head needs to be connected to the EZKey-XS to enable this facility to function.

Why the CDTV infrared controller? Well we wanted to add full alphanumeric keyboard emulation facilities to the EZKey-XSs IR controller, in a manner that was certainly easier to use than - for example - the SMS text service offered on most mobile phones. This needed an IR controller that was designed for two-handed (landscape) operation and had a largish number of well laid out keys, was unlikely to be superceded in the forseeable future (both of which ruled out a TV-style

remote control), and was well constructed and readily available. The CDTV IR remote controller meets all these criteria and has the added bonus of a mode switch which we have used to allow it to be used either in keyboard or pointer emulation mode.

IR head options.
Both types of IR head are functionally identical: both also come with appropriate cable(s) to connect direct to the EZKey-XS
keyboard adapter.
The internal IR head is designed to be incorporated in the users own equipment by mounting it behind an IR window (usually made of dark red perspex) using any 2 of the 4 no holes in the IR head itself.

A pair of suitable spacers/mounting pillars are supplied with the internal version of the IR head.

The external IR head comes in an enclosed plastic box with a built-in IR window on the front Its overall size is 60mm wide x 20mmm high x 40 mm deep. It also connects directly to the EZKey-XS adapter, but in this instance the cable is divided into two connecting halves. The first half comes from the external IR head unit and terminates in a 3.5mm stereo minijack plug. The other half has a 3.5mm stereo minijack chassis-mounting socket at on end and a connector for the EZKey-XS at the other.

The 3.5mm socket can be mounted at any convenient case location by drilling a suitable 6mm diameter mounting hole in any material whose thickness is less than 1.5mm. The external IR head can therefore be removed from the Amiga by unplugging the jack plug for ease of
